An exceptionally rare GOI OB-505 experimental lens, developed by the State Optical Institute in Leningrad during the 1970s for Soviet space-related photographic applications.
The massive lens measures approximately 22 cm in height and is finished in characteristic blue paint. It comes with its two original red protective caps and the original fitted wooden transport case bearing the matching serial number.
The OB-505 is associated with the period of the Soviet Almaz military space programme, whose Salyut 3 station was used for photographic reconnaissance during the Soyuz 14 mission in 1974. Only very few examples of this specialised GOI optic are known.
