An exceptionally rare prototype telephoto zoom lens developed by the Soviet State Optical Institute (GOI) in the 1970s as part of the optical equipment programme for the manned Salyut orbital space stations.
The lens features an all-metal construction, a constant f/4.5 aperture and an M42 screw mount. Produced in very small numbers as an experimental GOI development, it was made to very high technical standards and was never intended for commercial sale.
The offered example is in mint, apparently unused condition and comes with both lens caps, tripod adapter, fitted wooden transport case and original test certificate.
Also included is an original factory-internal OB-533 folder containing measurements, technical drawings, graphs and handwritten development notes, including information on the offered lens no. 73340 and lens no. 73338, sold in our 43rd auction.
A rare and well-documented Soviet space-related optical prototype.
