An exceptionally rare prototype zoom lens developed by GOI (State Optical Institute, Leningrad) for the Soviet Almaz K-mount SLR system. The Variogoir-21 covers 24–45mm with a constant maximum aperture of f/3.5 and uses an 11-element, 10-group optical construction.
The lens is finished in black and shows the typical hand-finished details and non-standard markings associated with GOI experimental optics. To the best of our knowledge, no other example of the Variogoir-21 is presently known.
The offered lens is preserved in very fine original condition, with optics showing some cleaning marks. A remarkable and very rarely documented example of Soviet experimental zoom-lens development.
