2 Vintage silver prints each c. 24 x 18 cm The two reverses feature extensively handwritten descriptions by Duncan in pencil and typographic stamps It is the largest of the world's three natural asphalt lakes, the La Brea Pitch Lake. The lake is approximately 250 feet deep, with a surface area of 100 acres. Mining of the lake started in 1867, and an estimated 10 million tons of asphalt has been extracted since.
