A highly unusual Leica M4 in olive-green finish. Only 31 olive M4 cameras are known from regular production, numbered 1266101–1266131 and supplied to the West German military in 1970.
The camera offered here bears the remarkable serial number 1266A, clearly differing from the regular numbering of the production series. Leica used the letter “A” for “Attrappe” on cameras originally intended as non-functional display or demonstration models.
Interestingly, all major components and construction details of the present camera are consistent with the small series of original olive M4 cameras, and the camera is fully functional. This suggests that it may originally have been produced by Leitz as an olive presentation or display camera and subsequently converted at the factory into a working example.
Included is an unnumbered Elmar 2.8/5cm lens.
A fascinating and apparently unique variation of the already very rare olive Leica M4.
