Very nice early Leica III Mod. F black/nickel and Elmar 3.5/50mm used by famous German photographer Mrs. Germaine Krull (Posen, Germany now Poznan, Poland 29.11.1897 - Wetzlar, Germany 31.07.1985).
Germaine Krull gained her reputation mainly in Paris between 1928 and 1931, notably with the publication of her portfolio *Métal*, which was received as a manifesto of the New Photography and linked by critics to the constructivism of László Moholy-Nagy, later she became member of Neues Sehen or New Vision movement (with Rodtchenko, Moholy-Nagy, Peterhans,...), close to the Bauhaus, she also helped to pioneer modern photojournalism, alongside André Kertész and Éli Lotar, amongst others. During the Second World War, as a war correspondent, she covered the Allied landings from Naples to Strasbourg, arrived in Germany at the time of the liberation of the Vaihingen concentration camp, and then travelled to South-East Asia, from Saigon to Bangkok. She left India in 1983 and lived with her sister in Wetzlar until her death in 1985.
The camera is in fine condition showing signs of use, note a flash contact added later, together with Elmar 3.5/50mm no.99259, both delivered to Tiranty, Paris in 1933 and 1932, with ETRIN leather case and hood with skylight filter. This lot comes with 2x portraits of the photographer, 16x23cm and 18x24cm silver prints and a document proving the origin of the camera. Also included are correspondances from Germaine Krull and Christel Klose (Germaine Krull's friend in Wetzlar).
