brass-made Camera obscura for tent use with adjustable glass prism. This kind of device was commonly used by painters in the 18th and 19th century. Fitted to the top of a lightproof tent made of black cloth, the prism would direct refracted light inside onto a paper surface therefore allowing an artists to trace the outside scene. The prism shows some minor chipping otherwise in very good condition. Height: 19cm. Ex-Naylor Collection.
