A very rare and presumably unique camera created as part of a cooperation between an american company Klinger, and Asahi Pentax to develop a half-frame version of the Pentax Spotmatic. The standard 35mm format was modified to produce 18×24mm exposures within the area normally occupied by a single 24×36mm frame.
The camera bears the distinctive “BY KLINGER” marking on the front, documenting Klinger's involvement in the project. Its construction differs considerably from a standard production Spotmatic and identifies it as an experimental or demonstration camera.
Klinger is known for specialized conversions and experimental camera constructions based on Pentax models, and the present Spotmatic is believed to be a unique example of this collaboration.
Included is a Super-Takumar 1.8/55mm no.4662782.
An important and highly unusual document in the experimental development of the Pentax system.
