A very rare GOI MTO 8/50cm (500mm f/8) catadioptric telephoto lens from 1953, developed by the Soviet State Optical Institute (GOI) as part of an experimental lens series for a planned SLR camera with Exakta mount. The MTO design is based on Dmitri Maksutov’s mirror-lens principle, combining spherical mirrors with a strongly curved meniscus corrector to achieve a remarkably compact construction for a 500mm lens. Particularly striking is the deeply concave front element, characteristic of this early Maksutov design. Only a very small number of these GOI prototypes are known to have been produced. The offered lens is preserved in very good condition, with good optics, and comes with its original lens hood.
