An extremely rare prototype of the VIOOH universal finder, dating from around 1936–39 and distinguished by its unusual round body. Unlike the regular production VIOOH, this example carries no maker’s markings, and is finished in matte black paint and nickel. The round-body version was never listed in Leitz publications and is generally regarded as a prototype, with only very few examples known. In near-mint condition, complete with the original unmarked red box. See James L. Lager, Leica – An Illustrated History, Vol. III, pp. 22–24.
