A previously unknown and exceptionally rare KMZ panoramic prototype, apparently the only surviving example known today.
Until the discovery of the present camera, this model was known only from an illustration published in J. L. Princelle’s 'The Authentic Guide to Russian and Soviet Cameras' (p. 182). No actual example appears to have been documented previously, nor, to the best of our knowledge, has one ever been offered at public auction.
Designed for the 6 × 12 cm panoramic format, the camera dates from the final period of Soviet prototype development at KMZ, most likely around the beginning of the 1980s. Despite reaching the prototype stage, the project was never developed into serial production.
The offered camera is fitted with an Industar-58 3.5/75mm lens bearing the exceptionally early serial number 003 and is complete with its detachable optical viewfinder. Remarkably, the camera remains in full working order.
An extraordinary and potentially unique survivor, representing one of the most elusive and important Soviet camera prototypes of the 1980s.
