View-Master Edition ‘Chinese Art…’

extremely rare View-Master Edition ‘Chinese Art in Three-Dimensional-Colour’ published by ‘The Gruber Foundation’ of Portland, Oregon consisting of 4 volumes of hardbound books, each with 44 View-Master reels mounted in the covers and a special version of the Model D View-Master focusing viewer on a stand. This unique edition was a private project by the inventor of the View-Master system, William B. Gruber, who also took most of the twelve hundred images and financed the production on his own expenses. Originally it was planned to print an edition of 1,000 copies, but since Mr. Gruber died before the first book was released his wife Norma Gruber had to finish the work. In order to be able to finance her late husbands dream, she founded the ‘The Gruber Foundation, Inc.’ and only about 300 sets have been produced. In 1969 a set of the ‘Chinese Art’ was sold for 400 Dollar and mainly went to institutions like the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The set offered is complete and in near mint condition, it comes with the scarce promotion leaflet including the sought after spacimen reel, the original instructions, a spare viewer lamp, the original film cleaning brush and the linen covered box for the viewer.
