“The Holy Land, Egypt, Constantinople, Athens, etc. etc.” published 1865 by Day & Son Ltd, London, bound in dark blue leather an stamped in gilt on covers and spines, 100 pages with 48 albumen print illustrations by Francis Bedford. The photographs were taken whilst Bedford accompanied the Prince of Wales on his tour of the Middle East in 1862. The accompanying text by W.M. Thomson is described as 'designedly of a popular character'. Francis Bedford (1816-1894) was originally an artist and lithographer, particularly of architectural subjects. He took up photography in the 1850s. In 1853 he co-founded the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. From 1853 until 1870 he exhibited at the Photographic Society and at various exhibitions. The book and the photographs are in good conditions, some pages mould stained. A highly collectible and hard to find Photographica!
