extremely hard to find viewer by the stereo-pioneer Henry Swan of London, made of walnut wood and covered with crimson velvet, the bed of the viewer is in two parts which are separated by two prongs which fit into holes lined with cloth to provide proper sliding friction, the viewer is held by the round knob on the underside with the thumb in the hole, the usual central divider is eliminated in favour of a ribbed glass central section, the hinged rear lid enables to choose between slides and cards. The viewer is in wonderful original condition and comes in the original fitted wooden box, on the lid an ivory label: The Stereoscopic Treasury. A beautiful and well preserved example of this classical mid 19th century stereoscope! Ex-Naylor collection.
