Around 1945, because of the shortage of high-quality optical glass, Nikon tried to develop a fast f:2 standard lens using 4 glass elements instead of five. The result was a prototype Nikkor-Q.C 2/5cm lens (with q standing for quattro) in a short, collapsible barrel. Unfortunately, the performance of the prototype was lower than that of the five-element lens, and it never went to serial production. The offered lens is the only known example of this prototype, it is in excellent cosmetic condition, optics only show minimal flaws, the lens is perfectly usable on modern cameras and shows a unique rendering, it is a very special opportunity for a serious Nikon collector.
