In celebration of the Republic of China Centennial in 2012, Leica Camera AG produced a limited edition of 100 Leica MP cameras, each finished in grey and engraved with a plum blossom on the top plate.
Before finalizing the production version, Leica considered a different finish: grey hammertone paint. The offered prototype represents this early design direction and is the only known example of its kind. It is presented here in mint, unused condition and includes the camera body no. P001, paired with a matching Summilux-M 1:1.4/35mm ASPH. lens no. 4320373 — both bearing the prototype designation N01/N01.
Unique features of this set include the plum blossom engraving on the lens hood and the removable front rim, as well as a smaller, distinct engraving style on the camera’s top plate, not seen on the final production models. A truly exceptional and historically significant Leica set.
