Ralph Gibson, born in 1939 in Hollywood, is renowned for his surrealistic, high-contrast black-and-white photography, shaped by his early Hollywood influences and formal training at the San Francisco Art Institute. Celebrated for transforming everyday scenes into evocative narratives through abstract compositions, he has been a devoted user of the Leica camera for nearly 50 years. With over 40 monographs and his work featured in more than 200 museum collections worldwide, Gibson has received numerous honours, including the Lucie Award and recognition as a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by France.
