An exceptionally rare early silver-chrome Leica M4 no. 1178049, produced in 1967 as part of the Canadian ELC batch 1178001–1178100, comprising only 100 cameras, as confirmed by the Leica Archive.
This was the only Canadian M4 production batch finished in silver chrome; the subsequent Canadian M4 batches were produced in black finish. Of particular interest, despite its documented Canadian production, the camera bears the standard “ERNST LEITZ GMBH WETZLAR GERMANY” engraving on the top plate. It also features the characteristic early-type flash contact symbols.
The camera is preserved in exceptionally fine, original condition, showing only minimal signs of use. It comes with a Summicron 2/5cm Rigid no. 2159499, with very good optics showing only a few light marks on the front element, and the original black leather ever-ready case.
