The latest example of an early Leica M3 with the distinctive corner at the front of the top plate we have recorded, no.701489. Typically, this feature is found on cameras in the 700100–700700 range; only a few examples from the 701xxx batch are known to display it. According to the delivery records, this camera was delivered to Manca, New York, on 23 April 1954. It was built with the early casting type (cast number 1664) and retains all original early features, including long strap lugs, absence of the ‘L’-seal, early viewfinder, and early back door. The camera is in excellent condition and is offered with a collapsible Elmar 3.5/5cm no.1146515, an early eveready case, a 1954 Leica M3 brochure, and an unnumbered maker’s box.
