A very rare Leica M3 in beautiful, near-mint condition, produced in Canada and engraved “Ernst Leitz Canada Limited Midland Ontario” on the top plate.
Usually, Leica M cameras assembled in Canada were fitted with top plates originating from Wetzlar production. Only a handful of examples are known with the distinctive Leitz Canada engraving, apparently produced as special samples.
Interestingly, the Leica delivery records show blank entries for the corresponding cameras, while the entire archive page is marked “Reserviert für ELC” (“reserved for ELC”), further supporting their special status within the Canadian production.
The camera comes with the matching “Midland” Summarit 1.5/5cm no. 1418441 and the correct XOONS lens hood.
