Leica M3 Prototype

Extremely rare Leica M3 With very early screw mount 5 cm Summicron f/2 no. 921753 with bayonet adaptor. Approximately 65 units of the Leica M3 pre-series camera were produced for testing purposes in 1953, and only a very few have survived. There are quite some differences in design still from the first serial production M3s. Cameras Nos. 005, 0041, 0043 and 0056 are illustrated in Lager, Leica Illustrated History, Vol. I, p.173-175. Extremely rare Leica M3 prototype camera in perfect working condition. All typical features (except a later rear door), including differently designed film advance lever, speed dial, self-timer, reversed direction rewind knob, external frame counter and release-button lockable at “B“. The camera is in fantastic, almost mint condition – original top and bottom plate were previously re-chromed. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most important cameras in the history of the Leica M. Im Jahr 1953 wurden etwa 65 Vorserienkameras der Leica M3 für Erprobungszwecke gefertigt, von denen nur wenige überlebt haben. Diese Kameras weisen noch einige konstruktive Unterschiede zu den ersten Serienkameras der M3 auf. Alle typischen Merkmale (mit Ausnahme einer späteren Rückwand), wie unterschiedlich ausgeführtem Schnellschalthebel, Zeitenknopf, Rückwicklung mit umgekehrter Drehrichtung, außenliegendem Bildzählwerk und Auslöseknopf, der auf „B“ verriegelt werden konnte. Die Kamera befindet sich in einem fantastischen, fast neuwertigen Zustand – original Deckkappe und Bodendeckel wurden in früherer Zeit einmal neu verchromt. Dies ist eine seltene Gelegenheit zum Erwerb einer der wichtigsten Kameras in der Geschichte der Leica M.
