In January 1960, Leica produced a small number of M cameras without a viewfinder or rangefinder. In the Leica Archive records, these rare cameras are listed as “M1.” Examples are known both with and without the M1 engraving on the top plate (see Lager, Leica: An Illustrated History, Vol. I – Cameras, p. 216). The offered camera is in excellent condition and comes with Elmar 2.8/50mm no. 1637582.
