An exceptionally rare military Leica M1 in olive-green finish, no.1035926 – the first camera of the second production batch of 75 examples made in 1961 for the German Armed Forces.
The camera shows the characteristic features of the olive M1, including the MP-type top plate, special viewfinder configuration for 50mm and 135mm lenses with corresponding “5+13,5cm” engraving, and “Bundeseigentum” marking. Particularly interesting is the combination of the later fine-pattern green body covering with an early coarse-pattern green covering on the back door, giving this first camera of the batch a distinctive transitional appearance.
The camera is preserved in beautiful, highly original condition, with an attractive patina including small age-related bubbles in the original olive paint, adding considerably to its authentic appearance and character.
Together with Elmar 3.5/50mm no.1145467 and the original military leather ever-ready case marked “Bundeseigentum”. A particularly attractive and historically interesting example of the rare olive M1.
