A rare and highly desirable Leica IIIf black paint “Swedish Army”, one of only approximately 100 special-order IIIf cameras manufactured for the Swedish military in 1957. These cameras were supplied with matching black painted Elmar 3.5/5 cm lenses and were winterised (kältefest) for reliable operation in Arctic conditions. The original series is confirmed in the Leica Archive delivery records as cameras nos.822901–823000 in matte black. The black paint Swedish Army series is widely recognised as one of the most attractive and collectable military Leica variants.
This example is preserved in excellent original, unrestored condition with beautiful patina consistent with careful use and age. It is accompanied by a matching black paint Elmar 3.5/5cm no.1427052 and original black lens cap. An exceptional and historically significant military Leica, notable for its rarity, distinctive finish and desirable original configuration — a highlight for advanced Leica collectors.
