A very rare military Leica IIIf, no.659575, from 1953, engraved “R.C.A.F.”, with the Canadian crown and “408 Squadron” markings. At the time, 408 Squadron was the Royal Canadian Air Force’s photographic squadron, based at Rockcliffe and engaged in aerial mapping and reconnaissance work across Canada, including the Arctic. The camera is accompanied by an unusual unnumbered Elmar 3.5/5cm. A highly interesting and seldom-seen Canadian military Leica with a direct association with one of the RCAF’s principal photographic reconnaissance units.
