An extremely rare Leica IIIf Design Studio camera, produced for the North American market around 1950–1951. It is believed that no more than ten examples of this special series were made, each with a different engraving style. The cameras were most likely intended for exhibitions and promotional displays in the United States.
The offered example is a fully functional camera body without a serial number, fitted with a Red Scale Elmar 3.5/5cm lens with feet scale, serial no. 1100900.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Leica IIIf Design Studio camera of this type to appear at public auction. A comparable example is illustrated in Lars Netopil’s book 'Rare Leica'.
