A very rare Leica IIIf black paint no.822918, from the special batch no.822901–823000 produced for the Swedish military. The Leica Archive records this series as “matt. schwarz”; the cameras were specially modified for reliable operation under Arctic conditions.
The camera is accompanied by a black-painted Elmar 3.5/5cm no.1427047 and the original black-painted lens cap. This black version of the Elmar was produced specifically for the Swedish Army IIIf outfit and was not part of the regular-production Elmar range, making the lens itself particularly rare. Only 100 of these special black IIIf cameras with corresponding black Elmars were made.
The combination of the satin black finish, special cold-weather modifications and matching black Elmar makes the Swedish Army IIIf one of the most distinctive military Leica cameras of the post-war period.
