Leica III Mod. F outfit 'Erich Andres'

Leica Model III, owned and used by the famous German photographer Erich Andres. The camera has been delivered to Berlin on 09.04.1931 and shows significant signs of years of professional use. The hard life of this Leica in the hands of a professional photographer can also be confirmed by numerous visits in Leitz workshop (where it has been converted to Model III on 15.03.1935). On careful inspection, the name and address of Mr. Andres can still be seen scrawled on the base plate. It comes with an unnumbered Hektor 2.5/5cm and Elmar 4.5/13.5cm no.176377. Included in this lot are also three vintage silver gelatine prints from the estate of the photographer, showing Andres using exactly this camera. Erich Andres (1905-1992) Erich Andres was a German photo reporter. At a young age he took photos with a self-made camera and used the images for diary-like recordings. In 1923 he moved to Hamburg and, in addition to his work in a printing company, worked as a photo reporter. He was denied classical training as a photographer because, according to experts, he lacked the necessary talent. In the end, however, the quality of his pictures prevailed, and many photo reports made his name known. Andres was also one of the first Hamburg photographers to use the newly developed Leica with 35mm roll film in 1931!
