George Omerth Chryselephantin

rare gilt bronze and ivory figure by Belgian Art Deco artist George Omerth showing a young girl holding a folding bellows camera, mounted on a marble socket, the face and both hands of the gilt cast bronze statuette are made of hand carved ivory, the base is marked ‘G. Omerth’. George Omerth (1895-1925) is well known for using the so called Chryselephantin technique, which goes back to the ancient Greek sculptures. Since the artist died young, his pieces of exquisite artistic quality are extremely hard to find, height 16.5cm
