In 1934 three factories were contracted to develop a Soviet version of the Leica II: the VOOMP Leningrad, FED and Geodeziya Moscow. This experimental camera was further developed and went later to serial production by FED factory only. The trial prototypes made by Factory Geodeziya (Zavod Geodezia in Moscow) were viewfinder cameras with fix-mounted and rangefinder-coupled Geodeziya 3.5/50mm lens. They were given to Moscow photographers to test and compare with Leicas. The offered camera is the first version FAG with serial number 49 (stamped with this number on both body shell and base plate). It is in excellent condition, equipped with matching Geodeziya 3.5/50mm lens (converted later, most probably by GOI factory to interchangeable mount). Included is also a special, original leather case. The FAG represents not only an interesting and extremely rare camera, but also milestone in the development of Soviet Leica copies.
