An exceptionally rare GOI Mercury-1 2/5.2cm prototype, developed in Leningrad in 1957 and fitted with a rangefinder-coupled M39 mount. The advanced optical construction consists of 7 elements in 5 groups, with a non-rotating front element, rounded diaphragm from f/2 to f/22 and distinctive amber-coloured coating.
The Mercury-1 never entered serial production and was for many years known only from GOI catalogues; today, only a few examples are known to exist. An identical example, no. 57116016, was sold in our 39th auction in November 2021.
The offered lens is in excellent condition, with clean optics, and comes with its original front and rear caps.
