Emile Reynaud Praxinoscope

French, the mahogany box with lid opening to stand at a right angle to the base, an opening is cut into the lid for viewing. The praxinoscope with candle and shade holder is screwed into the base of the box. Between the lid and the praxinoscope there is a chromolithographed proscenium with glass opening held at a slight angle. On the interior of the lid there is chromolithographed scenery which is seen reflected in the glass as if they were really in position behind the stage-front. At the same time the moving figure in the praxinoscope is seen through the glass and thus appears to be in motion on a stage provided with scenery. Together with one chromolithographed band of a dog jumping through a boy’s hoop. (missing paper lamp shade) Ex Spira Collection.
