early French brass lens that was built according to Daguerre's printed instructions: all details like the focal length (38cm) and the dimension and the design of the cylindrical brass mount, the front-diaphragm and slide shutter are almost identical to the lens of the 1839 Daguerreotype, the surface of the doublet lens is flawless, but shows some balsam fault. A rare and very interesting lens.
