Auguste & Louis Lumiere Projector

35mm, cast brass hand-cranked mechanism with original winding handle, brass bound lens with rack and pinion focusing in wood panel, brass replica film feed arm, the mechanism with patented triangular cam with hi/low adjustment, eccentric cam disc actuating film guide pins and original single bladed cardboard shutter, the back is fitted with two leaf springs and maker's stamp Jules Carpentier of Paris, height 40cm, with original wooden box. Following the success of the Lumiere Cinematographe of 1895-96, the Lumiere brothers designed the projector for showman who did not intend to shoot films. This projector is sprocket less which meant it was limited to a film capacity of approximately 100 ft. The film would pass into a wooden box or bin ready for rewinding immediately once the entire film had been shown. This model was described in Living Pictures in 1899 as the 'New Lumiere Cinematographe'. Only four Lumiere projectors have been offered for sale during the last 20 years. It is in very fine condition.
