A fascinating and highly unusual single-lens-reflex conversion based on a Leica screw-mount camera. The camera has been extensively modified with an integrated reflex mechanism and a retracting waist-level finder with magnifier. The internal mirror provides through-the-lens viewing and automatically moves out of the optical path when the shutter release is lightly pressed, before the focal-plane shutter is released.
The camera is fitted with a specially shortened Elmar 3.5/5cm no.344755, modified to accommodate the additional space required by the reflex mirror while maintaining the correct optical registration.
The maker and purpose of this sophisticated conversion are currently unknown. No comparable example of this particular integrated Leica SLR conversion is known to us.
