The Leica M7 was presented at Photokina in September 2002 as the first Leica M camera featuring electronically controlled aperture priority (A mode).
For testing purposes in 2001–2002, Leica produced approximately 50 prototype cameras designated M6A (A-Mode) in order to evaluate the new system that would later become the M7. These cameras were distributed to selected professional photographers for practical field testing. Leica has continued to use this approach whenever introducing a new camera model.
Offered here is one of these rare prototype cameras with the special serial number 0000018, preserved in clean and fully working condition.
