One of the most sought-after lenses produced by Meyer-Optik Görlitz: the Primoplan 1.9/50mm in Leica screw mount (M39), manufactured only in very small numbers and renowned for its distinctive rendering and characteristic bokeh.
The offered lens (SN: 624880) is an extremely early pre-series example and the earliest specimen we have encountered so far. Particularly notable is the hand-engraved “V1” on the underside of the mount ring, where "V" stands for Versuch (research in German), a typical marking for early development or pre-series production at Meyer-Optik Görlitz. The lens also differs from the standard production version by the absence of the two aperture adjustment pins on the aperture ring, giving the engraved front ring a very clean and uninterrupted appearance.
The lens is preserved in very good condition and appears little used. The optics are exceptionally clean and free of scratches or other defects, which is remarkable for this model, as the relatively soft glass is often prone to marks.
A rare opportunity to acquire an already very scarce Primoplan in an early pre-series configuration.
