While the Leica MDa was produced in serial production only in chrome finish, the present example is executed in black and carries no model designation on the top plate, only the MDa-style Leica logo engraving. The absence of further markings and the unusual finish suggest it may have served as a Muster camera in connection with the later Leica MD-2 development.

A rare and historically interesting piece with direct provenance from the estate of Leica engineer Peter Loseries.
